When Holly’s kids started getting older, she felt that nudge to do something for herself again. Baking had always been her thing – she’d trained in food and hospitality during her apprenticeship – but turning it into a business felt like a big step. Then came the moment that changed everything.

Encouraged by friends and pushed by her mate Emma, she entered the “Bring It Back to Spalding” Bake Off, judged by GBBO 2023 winner Matty Edgell. When he tasted her bake and asked if she was a professional, she laughed and said “not yet”. That tiny moment lit the fuse. A week later she was registered, approved, and officially in business. And thanks to her mum, she had the perfect name ready to go – Holly Bakewell (because, yes… Holly does bake well).

Why Holly Loves What She Does

For Holly, every cake tells a story. She loves chatting with customers, sketching out ideas over a slice of cake, and creating something personal for each occasion.

She’s also passionate about making sure nobody misses out. Whether someone needs gluten free, lactose free, soya free or vegan options, she’ll make it happen – and it’ll still look stunning.

After years as a stay-at-home mum, the business has boosted her confidence and given her something that feels truly hers. And with her husband helping customers and carrying cakes to the car, it’s very much a family-run labour of love.

Growing, Giving Back, and Finding Her Feet

The response since launching has blown her away. Lovely reviews, returning customers, and a fast-growing Facebook following have all boosted her confidence. The only real challenge has been juggling cakes with school holidays – but she’s learning the rhythm as she goes.

Holly’s naturally generous and loves supporting the community. She’s donated cakes to charities and goodies to her daughter’s preschool, Small Saints, simply because she likes to help where she can.

Her proudest moment so far? Winning the Spalding Bake Off and meeting Matty Edgell. The moment everything shifted.
