Lincolnshire entrepreneurs voice concerns and opportunities in direct talks with council decision-makers
Small business owners across Lincolnshire have had the opportunity to speak directly with council leaders about the challenges and opportunities they face in today’s economic climate.
The event, hosted by the Lincolnshire Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), brought together local entrepreneurs, county councillors, and council officers for a round table discussion on key issues affecting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). National FSB Chair Martin McTague OBE also attended, offering insights into countywide business concerns.
Council Commitment to Business Growth
Cllr Colin Davie, executive councillor for economy at Lincolnshire County Council, emphasised the importance of supporting small businesses:
“Small businesses are the backbone of the Lincolnshire economy, and we have been working closely with the FSB to ensure they have the right conditions to survive, thrive, and grow.
“Hearing directly from local business owners about trading conditions, the challenges of operating in a rural county, and the support they require is invaluable. These discussions help shape the future services provided by our Business Lincolnshire Growth Hub and ensure we align our efforts with real-world needs.”
Strengthening the Relationship Between SMEs and the Council
Katrina Pierce, business development manager for the Lincolnshire FSB, highlighted the significance of these discussions:
“With over 40,000 SMEs in Lincolnshire, it is crucial that the county council remains open to listening to the challenges and opportunities these businesses face.
“But listening alone isn’t enough; responding with targeted support, campaigns, and events that directly benefit SMEs is what truly makes a difference. I’m delighted that we have such a strong, productive relationship with the council that leads to real action for local businesses.”
Supporting High Streets and Business Sustainability
Cllr Ian Carrington, chair of the county council’s Environment and Economy Scrutiny Committee, also attended the meeting. The committee recently endorsed Lincolnshire FSB’s ‘Future of the High Street’ report, reflecting its commitment to business sustainability.
“The committee strongly believes that supporting small businesses is crucial to Lincolnshire’s economic future,” said Cllr Carrington. “Collaborating with organisations like the FSB allows us to understand the real challenges businesses face and provide meaningful support. This discussion was an eye-opening insight into the hard work and dedication of Lincolnshire’s business community.”
The Path Forward
The FSB and Lincolnshire County Council plan to continue these conversations through future events and targeted initiatives, ensuring that small businesses have a voice in shaping policies that impact their growth and success.
