Lincolnshire has taken a significant step in strengthening international ties by forging a new partnership with the Kherson region in Ukraine. Representatives from Kherson recently visited Lincolnshire to formalise an agreement aimed at fostering collaboration and mutual growth between the two regions.

Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson regional military administration, joined Cllr Colin Davie, Lincolnshire County Council’s executive councillor for economy, environment, and planning, in signing a memorandum of understanding to mark the beginning of this alliance.

The Ukrainian Embassy highlighted the similarities between Lincolnshire and Kherson, noting that both regions are largely rural, with strong agricultural, food production, and manufacturing industries. Cllr Davie welcomed the partnership, stating, “The UK and Ukraine have developed a positive relationship through the Homes for Ukraine programme, and I am very proud that we have more than 1,000 people here in Lincolnshire under this scheme.

“Today marks the start of a journey to develop a strong partnership with the Kherson region that will see us learn from each other, build networks over time between businesses, connect research organisations, and support growth in both areas.”

The Kherson delegation also included the Head of the Internal and Information Policy Department and the Head of the Investment and Export Development Office.

During their visit, the delegation toured the LIAT Campus at Riseholme and the Siemens facility in Lincoln, gaining insight into Lincolnshire’s expertise in research and innovation.

This partnership is expected to open doors for increased business collaboration, knowledge exchange, and economic development opportunities, reinforcing Lincolnshire’s role in international cooperation and support for Ukraine.
