Lincolnshire County Council has announced its commitment to breaking the deadlock surrounding Deepings Leisure Centre, which has been closed since 2021.
Following a recent meeting of all involved parties, the council has confirmed plans to demolish the current building and allow new leisure facilities to be developed on the site.
Key Developments:
- £850,000 funding allocated to demolish the existing centre
- Lease agreement to be signed with Anthem Trust
- Potential new facilities including a sports hall, gym, and studio
Despite years of discussions, no agreement has been reached on a community leisure facility that benefits both the public and The Deepings School. The Anthem Trust, which runs the school, has expressed its intention to explore options for new sports facilities, with a focus on both student and community use.
However, the Deepings Leisure Centre Community Interest Company (CIC) has withdrawn from discussions unless space is reserved for a future swimming pool. The Trust is expected to continue working with South Kesteven District Council and other interested parties to determine the community’s role in the new centre.
Next Steps:
- Demolition of the former leisure centre
- Discussions on funding and future facility plans
- Potential new sports and fitness amenities
Lincolnshire County Council Leader Cllr Martin Hill stated: “We cannot allow the building to deteriorate indefinitely. Our funding remains committed, and we are taking steps to move this project forward for the benefit of the Deepings community.”
