Motorists using the A16 between Cowbit and Crowland should prepare for significant overnight roadworks, as a crumbling three-mile stretch is set to be completely rebuilt.
Lincolnshire County Council has announced a £2.3 million reconstruction project, which will begin on Monday, 17 March, with work expected to last until early June, weather permitting. Given that the A16 is one of the county’s busiest roads, all repairs will take place overnight (7pm – 6am, weekdays only) to minimise disruption.
Where and When Will the A16 Be Closed?
🚧 Roadworks Location: A16, from the A1175/B1173 roundabout in Cowbit to the Peterborough Road/James Road roundabout in Crowland
⏳ Closure Times: 7pm to 6am, Monday to Friday nights
🚦 Traffic Management: A diversion route will be in place via A1175 to Market Deeping and A15 to Peterborough, adding up to 40 minutes to journey times
Double Disruption for A16 Drivers
In addition to these overnight closures, a separate road closure for the ongoing A16 Pinchbeck Roundabout improvements will remain in place until late March. This means that drivers using the A16 between Boston and Peterborough at night could face two different diversions in the same week.
Cllr Richard Davies, executive member for highways, acknowledged the inconvenience but emphasised the importance of the repairs:
“Anyone who’s recently driven the A16 between Cowbit and Crowland knows it’s falling apart. That’s why we’re taking action now to get it fixed as quickly as possible. We appreciate this will cause disruption, but by working overnight, we’re keeping the impact on road users to a minimum.”
Plan Ahead to Avoid Delays
With the potential for extended journey times, drivers are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for travel.
